Housing SA – PR Connect

Housing SA has developed an online application form, PR Connect, for customers seeking financial assistance into the private rental market.  PR Connect will enable customers to apply for bond guarantees and rent in advance via  sa.gov.au, on any device, any time of the day.  Customers will receive a provisional response on-screen, followed by a confirmation outcome when verified by Housing SA via email, SMS, or letter, whichever they prefer.  This initiative will streamline the process for customers, and allow Housing SA and its partnering agencies to focus more attention on providing advice and support to those who need it.  For more information, visit the sa.gov.au website. and click the Housing icon.

Probono Australia article - Indigenous homeless hit hardest with funding uncertainty

In a recent edition of Probono Australia (January 24), it was reported that ongoing funding uncertainty is restricting homelessness support for Indigenous Australians, according to a new report.  The article also went on to say that ”research from AHURI has found there are no government programs that specifically target supporting homeless Indigenous Australians or those at risk of experiencing homelessness, despite their being significantly overrepresented in the homeless population”.

Do you work with people who struggle to pay their utility bills, who have high energy consumption or are unsure about what kind of contract they have with their energy supplier? You might be a financial counsellor or housing officer, a case manager in mental health or working in emergency relief - hardship as we know cuts right across our sector.

UCWB delivers innovative training in utilities literacy to the community services sector in South Australia. We have designed a set of five half-day modular-based workshops:

  1. Decoding bills and reading meters
  2. Contracts and getting a better deal
  3. Calculating running costs, energy and water efficiency
  4. Hardship, concessions and assistance
  5. New technologies and tariff reform

The workshops will be offered at Bowden in February and March 2017. If you wish to register (yourself, colleagues, volunteers…) for any of the training modules, just click on the date(s) of your choice on the calendar. While the sessions are complementary, they can be attended as stand-alone workshops.

TafeSA - Workshop on Business Income Tax - February 2017

TAFE SA is offering a 5 hour workshop on "How to minimise business income tax" at  Adelaide City, Elizabeth, Gilles Plains, Mount Barker, Noarlunga, Port Adelaide, Tea Tree Gully and Tonsley in February 2017.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide you with a fundamental knowledge and skills of business income tax principles and rules. This will enable you to legally minimise the amount of business income tax you pay whilst meeting Australian Tax Office (ATO) compliance requirements.

Fulcrum People: Returning Woman Worker -  February and March 2017

Fulcrum People have developed a training and mentoring program for the Returning Woman Worker, and have spaces for participants in February and March. There is limited funding and therefore a limited number of places for this program however this enables the program to be delivered at no cost. The criteria are that participants must be out of work, but actively seeking work. Financial Fitness Workshop for Women – 1 February 2017

A combination of basic financial literacy sessions and fun physical fitness sessions. This workshop is particularly aimed at women from CALD backgrounds although all women are welcome to attend. 

Interpreters can be organised for the day if needed. Please call if there are any other barriers for your client participating such as child care or transport and Zahra Foundation will try to work out a plan. Women must register for this event as it is a catered event with lunch provided.  Location provided on registration (close to the city).
