Aged Care Home Visitor Program

Home Visitor Program Header

Home Visitor Program (formerly Community Visitors)

The Home Visitor Program (formerly Community Visitors) offers regular friendly visits that are relaxed and social in nature.  The program aims to enrich older individual's and volunteer's lives with company and friendship.

Many of us take for granted the regular contact we have with other people – going to work, attending sport and hobby clubs or simply running down to the local shops.  As we get older, sometimes our circumstances change and getting out and about it not as easy as it used to be.

Family and friends may not live close by or simply get caught up in the rush of modern life.  Older friends who used to visit may face similar challenges with mobility and transportation, or have moved into a residential facility themselves.

Eligibility
  • The Home Visitor Program supports recipients of Home Care Packages living in the community and residents of Aged Care Facilities.
  • Home Visitors are also supported by a number of other UCWB programs to visit older people in their own home.
  • Participants do not need to be receiving any other supports to be eligible for this program.
  • Participants can be receiving aged care services from another organisation.cvs alpha

Visits

Older people can offer a different perspective drawn from life experiences.  Volunteers can help people feel more connected to the community.  Regular weekly or fortnightly visits can be organised for people who live either in their own home or in a residential facility.  Volunteers are carefully matched with individuals who share common interests.  It makes for some interesting discussions, a few laughs and most importantly, the sense of belonging we all need to feel.

“It was a lovely morning, spent time cooking and celebrated Valentine’s Day. The residents really look forward to me coming.  We have fun cooking and have made lentil soup, stuffed eggplant, pasta bolognaise, Italian biscuits, home-made gnocchi… and lots more!  There is always lots of talking and laughing.”

Angela, volunteer.
