Circle of Security Parenting

Program Description

Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) is an early intervention program for parents and children that focuses on the relationships which give children emotional support.

The evidence-based program focuses on the Circle of Security map, which helps parents and other carers to understand the complexity of the attachment system and supports carers to understand and how it contributes to infants and toddlers developing a sense of security and competence. The map draws a clear link between attachment and learning.

The program involves reflection on how carers can use the Circle as a roadmap. When put into the context of relationships with carers, COSP helps build understanding of how important relationships in the lives of children, in addition to parents, contribute to constructing meaning within relationship and between other children.

How the program is delivered

The program is delivered in-person to groups, or one-on-one and consists of 8 x 2-hour sessions.

The program is generally delivered weekly over the school term, however, session frequency can be increased or decreased depending on the need of the site.
