Family Mental Health Support Service

What is the Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS)?

The Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) is a program funded by the Australian Government. It’s designed to support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people aged 0–17 years, by working closely with their families and communities.

FMHSS helps families when their child or young person:

  • Is showing early signs of mental health concerns
  • May be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, withdrawn, or struggling to cope
  • Needs extra emotional support

The different types of support we offer include:

Short-term Support

This includes assessing your needs, providing information and/or referrals for support (up to 6 sessions).

Long-term Support

Long-term Support is therapeutic support for children, young people and their families (up to 12 months).

Community Outreach

This support involves mental health education and community development activities.

Each child is unique, and we value and empower their individual personalities, interests and strengths.

Our child-focused approach helps create confident and connected children.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is there a cost for this service?

No. The service is funded by the Department Social Services (DSS).

No. We are an early intervention, short-term support service. If you child has an NDIS plan or MHCP, support will be available through your specialist services.

We will start with 6-8 weekly sessions and then review to assess what future support is appropriate.

We can offer sessions at our Bowden office, or at your child’s school. School-based sessions are dependent on the site’s support of us visiting, and being able to provide a suitable space for sessions.

You will receive a response within 7 days.
