ACCESSIBILITY ACTION PLAN
As a service provider, with 160 years of experience, we are proud of our ongoing commitment to providing services that can make a difference to people and communities. With one in seven people globally experiencing disability, we are committed to ensuring that our services are accessible and inclusive. The development and implementation of this plan is an important part of our strategic planning and provides a framework for ensuring an accessible and inclusive approach for our customers, carers, volunteers and staff. The plan sets out our commitment to quality service provision and to assisting people to live life to their full potential.
In keeping with the principles of legislation and policy frameworks, UCWB is committed to meeting our obligations as set out in:
- United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- National Standards for Disability Services
- NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework
- South Australian Disability Services Act (1993)
- Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act (1992).
In addition, the plan reflects our values:
Respect: Having due regard for the feelings, wishes and rights of others
Trust: Building honest relationships
Integrity: Adhering to ethical principles
Courage: Having strength to live our values and achieve our purpose.
UCWB is committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. This plan is intended to form a whole of organisation approach to address access and equity issues and sets out our aims, actions and planned outcomes for creating an inclusive environment. This plan will assist us in removing existing barriers within our premises, services, information, communication and employment processes. The plan has been approved by the UCWB Board and will be reviewed at least every three years. An Accessibility Action Plan Committee has been established to ensure that work plans are developed, implemented and monitored. The committee will provide an annual report to UCWB’s Executive and Board on progress against the current work plan. Modifications will be made, as required.
